New Canvas Art Pieces

Lately, I've been inspired by Christy Tomlinson's YouTube videos. I love the work she does on canvases and so I decided to try my hand at her technique. These are the pieces I made.

As you can see, on three of the canvases I painted my Paige dolls. The canvas below measures 10"x10".

Here's some pictures of the steps I took to make the mini canvases. They measure 3"x3" and 2"x3".

I first covered the blank canvases with scraps of text book paper. Then I painted a silhouette of my Paige doll in gesso.

 I used my caran d'ache neo color II watersoluble crayons to color the faces and dresses.

I painted the hair with acrylic paint, added my metro tissue paper for the dresses and added other embellishments and doodles to finish it off. They're so small and fun to make!

The canvas below is for my daughter. She asked I make her a canvas for her baking studio, so I thought cakes with eyes would be perfect, it matches her baking style! I'm so proud of her, this week she just reached over 400,000 subscribers on her YouTube channel, KawiiSweetWorld!

And on a final note, I just received the latest issue of Somerset Life today.

My Victorian post cards I made a few months ago were published. I always love how this publication photographs the pieces and makes them look great...thank you Stampington & Co. I'm always honored to be in your magazines!

Paint Chip Sample Art

This week I stopped by one of my favorite shops: East Bay Depot for Creative Reuse. You just never know what you might find there. I look for unusual items that I can reuse for a craft project. Look at the projects I made below - can you guess what I picked up?

Yep, packs of paint chips!

 

 I've seen people make crafts with them before, so I knew I could make something with them.

I have a vintage doll stamp that's fits perfectly in the color block. So, I stamped away...

I also took some of my Project Life cards to make tags and birthday cards - you can always use more birthday cards!

I cut up each paint chip and used them on the cards. I like keeping the color name and number as part of the paint chip.

The black and white card below came from the Target Dollar Spot. I love the graphics on it.

I added some buttons and some other accent paper to finish the cards.

As you can see, I only used the taupe shade paint samples for this grouping of projects.

I wanted to make one project with the entire paint sample, so I made this banner below.

And the last project below is a mini book.

This was a fun project! Next time you're at your local hardware store, try picking up paint chip sample and making something creative with it.

And lastly, I wanted to share a fun storage idea. I recently bought these vintage drawers and found they're a perfect fit to store washi tape. It's a good thing!

Inside My New FiloFax Pocket Planner

I was recently inspired by a video I watched by Christy Tomlinson, a mixed media artist, about her obsession with planners. I've been also obsessed with planners and recently converted to a smaller planner. Below is my Filofax Pocket Patent planner in Duck Egg color and a Forever 21 makeup brush holder that I converted to a pen and notepad holder (who's idea came from YouTube channel Strange & Charmed).

The pocket planner is so small, only 4" wide and 5 1/2" tall. Nice size to fit in any purse. I just love this size! Below are lots of pictures of how I set up my planner.

I decorated the planner with supplies from Heidi Swapp, Teresa Collins, Kate Spade and Simple Stories (Michael's Joann's, Scrapbook Territory and Paper Source). They all have lots of gold, mint green and black accessories that coordinate perfectly.

Calendar Section

I cut up a Project Life page divider (mint green and clear polka dot) to fit in my pocket planner and embellished with Heidi Swapp stickers.

The calendar pages are a free download from the blog: Philofaxy. I embellished the calendar pages with washi tape. Then towards the back of the planner are just some miscellaneous pages.

 

 

 

Below are some of the supplies that I used to decorate with. Such great designs and colors...makes decorating oh so easy and fun!

And then on a final note, I was over whelmed to be included in the latest issue of Somerset Apprentice where they feature interviews with the Pros.
